Computing

‘A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.’ The National Curriculum, 2014

At Greenfields, our vision is to equip our students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to be active and critical participants in a rapidly evolving digital world. With this in mind, it is our intent that all children will be equipped with the skills needed to participate in this rapidly changing world. It is also our intention that children will be provided with a high-quality computing education that will encourage and challenge computational thinking and creativity in how to adapt to these changes. It is important to us that children understand how to use the ever-changing technology to express themselves, as tools for learning and as a means to drive the next generation forward.

Our Computing curriculum seeks to integrate Computing principles and skills across the wider curriculum and relate them to real-world applications, ensuring our students can transfer their knowledge effectively.

There are 3 strands to the Computing curriculum:

  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Digital Literacy

We have a commitment to using technology throughout the wider curriculum to support and enhance children’s learning. To support this, every class has access to either iPads, or laptops to enable the transfer of skills. By having access to these devices, it ensures that children can use computers for a range of purposes and within the wider curriculum, as well as discrete computing lessons.

Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Greenfields has recently been reviewed and updated to ensure that it remains exciting for the children, whilst covering all the core strands. All the strands are covered across our 2 cycles, with 3 units of computing each year. Currently, (2023/2024) we are in cycle B.

KS1 Cycle B

  • E-safety Week
  • Animation
LKS2 Cycle B
  • Computer Networks
