PE
Physical Education gives children the opportunity to explore movement, develop fundamental skills and build confidence in their physical abilities. It enables children to be curious about how their bodies work, to challenge themselves and to experience the joy of being active. PE should inspire a love of physical activity, teamwork and healthy living, creating awe and excitement through sport, games and physical challenges.
Teaching will develop children’s knowledge and skills across key areas of the curriculum:
-
Fundamental Movement Skills
-
Games and Team Sports
-
Gymnastics and Dance
-
Athletics and Outdoor Adventurous Activities
"Sport has the power to change the world… it has the power to inspire. It speaks to youth in a language they understand." – Nelson Mandela
At Greenfields, we strive for our children to develop skills, resilience and confidence through physical activity. Children are encouraged to set personal goals, work collaboratively and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment. Our curriculum begins with mastering basic movements, coordination and control, building towards more complex skills, competitive games and a deeper understanding of rules, strategy and fairness. Inclusive opportunities ensure all children achieve success, enjoy physical activity and feel proud of their progress.

As children move through school, they learn the importance of exercise, teamwork, perseverance and respect. They participate in a broad range of activities that promote fitness, wellbeing and positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity. Lessons are planned to ensure progression, creativity and enjoyment, while encouraging children to develop good sportsmanship and celebrate each other's achievements.
"A champion is defined not by their wins, but by how they recover when they fall." – Serena Williams
We strive to provide enriching physical experiences both within school and beyond. Children have the opportunity to take part in outdoor and adventurous activities, inter-school competitions, team events and school sports days. Through these experiences, pupils develop communication, leadership, determination and resilience, while understanding the importance of keeping active for both physical and mental health. At Greenfields, PE helps children build the foundations for a healthy, active and fulfilled life.
