The environment.
Oak trees will be spending 1 week learning about the environment including how we humans impact it and what humans can do to protect the planet and the wildlife on it. This will including making places of animals to live and picking litter from around our school.

Oak trees built a bug hotel using natural parts of our environment and made sure our pond was clean for our frogs.
Silhouettes.
For 1 week oak trees will be learning about silhouettes. This will be learning about the background and the foreground. We will link this to our previous learning about the great fire of London by making silhouettes of the buildings.

Structures.
Oak trees will spend 1 week designing and building a structure. They will be building playground equipment such s slides or swings. They will use our environment to experiment with what makes a structure stable and then build them using their plan for what they will need.

Dinosaurs.
Oak trees will be spending 2 weeks learning about dinosaurs. The first week will be focusing on the 3 different dinosaur periods: the Triassic, Jurassic and cretaceous. The second week will look at how the dinosaurs became extinct and how we know they ever existed. This learning will be supported by our trip to the London natural history museum.

Animation.
Oaks will spend 2 weeks learning about animation. This will start by making storyboards of the animation they will be making. It will then be time to use stop motion studio to create their own stop motion animations.

Friendship.
For 1 week Oak trees will focus on friendships. This will be learning about how to be a good friend and how being loyal, kind and caring makes people feels. It will also include learning the friendship song on the glockenspiels.

Coding.
Oak trees will spend 2 week learning coding. The first week will be learning who to correctly use the app scratch JR as well as planning the code we will be making. The second week will then begin to code our own stories as well as focus on de-bugging our programmes to ensure that they run smoothly.

Plants.
Oak trees will be spending 2 weeks investigating and learning all about plants. The first week includes experimenting with the different needs of a plant and seeing how things grow differently in light and dark as well as colder or warmer temperatures. The second week will focus on looking at the results as well as discovering and investigating the different parts of the plant as well as practically applying our knowledge during our trip to Communigrow.

Muslims
Oak trees will spend 2 weeks learning about Muslims and the religion of Islam. We will focus the first week on our fingertip knowledge and the golden rule. The second week will be looking in depth further at the 5 pillars of Islam and the rules that they live by.

The Great fire of London.
Oak trees will be spending 2 weeks learning about The Great Fire of London. We will be having a visit from London fire fighter to talk about how The Great Fire of London changed London and firefighting. We will also be looking at how we know what happened even though they didn't have the same types of communcation we know we will be focusing on Samuel Pepys and looking into how the Fire started. We are also going to put out a controlled fire as a class.

As one of our reading challenges, Oak trees read with Elm trees and Silver birch. This encouraged some amazing reading and conversation with all our students.
Living things and their Habitats.
For two weeks we will be looking at Living things and their Habitats. The first week will be spent looking at the different types of habitats, including Microhabitats, Desert habitats, Ocean habitats, Woodland habitats, and Polar habitats. The second week will be focusing in more details on food chains and the habits and diets of animals. We will be making food chain paper chains and understanding what animals need to survive and how that can be found in their habitat.

Art- Abstract Art
For 2 weeks we will be looking at abstract art, specifically Wassily Kandinsky. We will focus on shapes, lines and brush strokes as well as looking at the colour wheel with its primary and secondary colours. The first week will be looking at Kandinsky's work, picking them about and finishing them off. We will also be making colour wheels and experimenting with different brushes. In the second week we will investigate colours further and create our very own abstract piece of art.

PSHE- Culture and Diversity
For one week we will look at different cultures and their celebrations, such as Diwali, Lunar new year, Christmas and Easter. We will also look at diversity and how people may look different, but inside they are the same as everyone else.

We will spend 1 week learning about the weather. This will include looking at how it can change based on where you are and all about the equator. We hope to see lots of different weather during the week and have lots of conversations about the weather we experience.

PSHE- Families and the people that care for me.
We will be learning about families and the people that care about us for the next week. There will be a lot of conversations about different families and how they can look. We will have the opportunity to draw our own family portraits and write stories about our own families and see how they are different to other people.

DT- Wheels and Axels
We will be spending 2 weeks designing, creating and evaluating our own projects. These have a focus on the wheels and axels. Oak trees will spend the first week researching different toy cars and then spend the following week making their own and evaluating their product.

Science - Materials.
We will be learning about different materials and their different uses for 2 weeks. The first week will be looking at exploring different materials, followed by a week of looking at individual materials and their uses. We will finish with an experiment testing different materials and how waterproof they are.

Computing – E-Safety
We will be spending one week learning about e-safety and how to be stay safe online. This includes making sure we know what information needs to be kept private and what to do if something online make you uncomfortable.

History – Communication
We will spend the next 2 weeks learning about communication and how it has evolved over time. The first week will be spent looking at older forms of communication like the messengers, the telegraph and morse code. Followed by a week of learning about more modern forms of communication like Telephones, mobile phones and the internet and how new forms of communication changed daily life.

RE- Jewish People
We will be learning about Jewish people for the next 2 weeks. in the first week we will focus on looking at who Jewish people are and what they believe. The second week will look at their sacred texts and what it means to be part of a faith community. We will be looking at Jewish artifacts and symbols that are important within the faith.

Science- Animals including humans
We will be learning about animals including humans for the next 2 weeks. The first week we will be learning to classify different animals into the 5 categories (Fish, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians and Mammals). Then in the second week we will be learning about the different needs of animals and what humans need to keep healthy. In the second week we will be furthering our knowledge of animals by going on a trip to Wildwood animal park.

Music – Your imagination.
In the next week we will be learning all about music and learning the song 'Your Imagination'. We will be learning to play it on the glockenspiels and using our environment to make our own music and writing our own songs.
The children have been finding different ways to play our song (Ipads and in the music area) as well as writing songs and finding keywords in a crossword.

Geography – Where we live.
In the next 2 weeks we will be learning about where we live. During the first week we will be looking at human and physical features. We will build our own human features and spot physical features in our environment. For the second week we will begin to learn to find where we live on a map. This will include looking at lots of different maps and globes and writing leaflets to show why the different countries are unique.
