'The Three Little Pigs' (Computing)
This week we have been looking at the book 'The Three Little Pigs'.
We tried to rebuild the Pig's houses!
We used story spoons to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs.
The Dot by Peter Reynolds (Art)
This week we have been reading the book 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds. We have been exploring, using and refining different techniques to artistically express our thoughts and feelings!
Conker Run Fun!
We completed our own dot experiment. We used water, oil and food colouring. When we dropped food colouring into the water and oil, it created a colourful dot.
Canvas and cardboard painting in our art gallery!
We used cotton buds and conkers to create a variety of dots!
We explored large-scale mark making by dropping paint-covered balls from a higher level onto a tarpaulin below. We observed the different dots and splashes created as the balls landed and experimented with dropping the balls in different ways.
We rolled a dice, identifying the number shown and then found the matching number of dots on the paper!
Rain by Sam Usher (Science)
This week we will be looking at the book Rain by Sam Usher. We will be exploring various materials like wood, cardboard, paper, metal and fabrics and testing which material is most suitable for a raincoat.
Our coloured raindrops!
Our Jeskyns Trip!
We visited Jeskyns Community Woodland to build our own dens! We explored different ways to position and secure the materials before testing our dens with water to see if they were waterproof! We observed what happened, discussed which materials worked best and made changes to improve our dens!
We created our own rain shakers!
Inspired by our story Rain, we used lego in water to design and build our own floating city!
We got dressed in our waterproofs ready for the rain! We discussed the different materials the waterproofs were made of!
We recreated a 'voyage of sea monsters' just like our book!
We used pipettes to carefully drop water onto a range of different materials, we observed what happened to the water and explored whether each material absorbed or repelled it. We then began to identify which materials were waterproof, making comparisons and talking about what they noticed.
We created our own rainy pictures using cotton wool and cotton buds!
We used pipettes to create our own water paint droplets on paper.
Cherry Trees had an amazing first few days exploring the classroom and getting to know each other!
We practised writing our names!
