Thursday 7th January 2021

Topic- Today we are going to start thinking more about our local area of Shepway/Maidstone. Can you research or use what you already know to name some of the key buildings/places around our local area? Eg. Church, Shops, Morrisons, Bus Stop, Mote Park, Leeds Castle etc.
Can you draw at least 5 different places and see if you can use your phonics skills to write what they are next to them?

Phonics- We are going to practice writing some cvc words. Click on the document below and look at the pictures. Say each word out loud, listening carefully for the initial, middle and final sound.
Can you write the word for each picture?

Maths- Today we are going to practice estimating. Ask an adult to give you a selection of objects
(eg. dry pasta, lego, puzzle pieces etc.)
Before counting how many objects there are, simply look at your selection of objects and guess (estimate) how many objects there are. Then check if you were right by counting. Repeat this and remember if your adult gives you a smaller amount of objects, your estimate should be lower. If your adult gives you a larger amount of objects, your estimate should be higher. Focus on numbers below 20. Remember, it doesn’t matter if your estimate isn’t correct, but keep trying and see how close you can get to the correct number each time!

Guided Reading- In guided reading today, we are going to think back to our story from Monday- ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers.
Can you remember what it was about? Read the story again-

Today’s challenge is to use any materials you have at home to paint/draw/make planet earth. Can you label the land and sea?
How do you know which part is land and which part is sea?
We look forward to seeing your creations!
