Topic- Now that we have learnt about our local area and the UK, we are going to start thinking about other parts of the world.
This week we will be focusing on The Desert. Please watch the video below to find out more about the Desert. Your challenge is to choose one animal that lives in the Desert and draw a picture of it. Can you label your picture, identifying the different body parts on your animal?

Reading- Our book for Reading this week is ‘Meerkat Mail’. Click the link below to listen to the story. Pause as you listen to discuss the story and ask any questions. Can you name some of the animals that Sunny visited?

Phonics-
Recap- On phonics play, click on ‘Giggling Grapheme’. Select ‘All of Phase 2’ and click on the correct alien for each sound.
Practice- On phonics play, go to ‘sentences’ and select ‘j’. Can you apply your phonics skills to read these sentences?
Apply- Click on the document below and look at the pictures. Can you write a short caption for each picture?
Maths- Watch Mrs Hanratty introduce subtraction and then complete the subtraction number sentences on the document below.

Topic - Yesterday you watched a video introducing you to the animals in the desert. Today we would like you to click on the document below and create your own animal fact file. You can choose any animal from the video you saw yesterday. In the box that says where the animal lives, please do not just write desert. For example 'The fox livss in the desrt, it is hot, he lives undu the growd to keep him cooll'.
Reading - Looking back at our story for this week 'Meerkat Mail' Sunny wrote lots of postcards to his family explaining where he was and what it was like. Today we would like you to write a postcard as if you were Sunny. Please remember to use your phonics knowledge to help you write your postcard.
Maths - Carrying on with subtracting today. Please complete the subtraction number sentences on the document below, using Mrs Hanratty's video from yesterday to help you.
Phonics - Please watch Mrs Webb introducing the new sound 'w' and complete the activities.
Wednesday 20th January 2021
Topic- We are continuing to think about desert animals today. We are going to identify animals that do live in the desert and animals that do not live in the desert. Look at and discuss the PowerPoint below, thinking about where the different animals might live.
Then complete the activity, drawing some examples of animals that do/do not live in the desert.
Maths- Continuing with subtraction, can you complete the work sheet attached by crossing out the correct number of minibeasts in order to find the answer to the subtraction number sentence?
Reading- For today's reading activity, we would like you to go back onto 'Oxford Owl' and choose a pink or red level book to read.

Topic- For our topic activity today, we would like you to use any resources you have at home (paint, felt tips, pencils, pastels etc) to create your own desert picture. Can you include some desert animals in your picture? Be as creative as you like!
Maths- We are going to continue to practice subtraction today but with some bigger numbers. Can you complete the subtraction number sentences in the document below? You can use objects you have at home to help you.
Reading- For reading today, please open the document below and read the captions carefully. Can you match the captions to the correct picture?
Phonics- Watch Miss Elphick introduce our new tricky word 'he' and complete the activities.

Topic - Today we would like you to create a desert cactus using your hand. If you do not have paint, you could draw around your hand and use colouring pens. Look at the image below as an example.
Phonics – For today’s phonics lesson we are going to recap what we have learnt this week.
Recap - Please could you write ‘w’, ‘x’ and ‘he’, remember our cursive handwriting.
Practise – Please can you go onto phonics play and go onto ‘Buried Treasure’ using ‘w’ and ‘x’ words. Read the word and decide whether it is real or fake.
Apply – Your challenge is to write 3 captions that include the new tricky word ‘he’ and one of the words below.
Web, well, wet, wig, wag, mix, six, exit, box.
Maths - We are going to continue with subtraction today. Adult can you say the number sentence and children can you write the number sentence and work out the answer.
Guided Reading- Click the link below to read another story about a meerkat called ‘Milly the Meerkat’. Once you have finished the story, can you discuss which story you preferred and why?
