2025/26

Term 1

This term we will start by looking at the book 'The Whale who Wanted More'. Focusing on Geography and where we live, before moving onto Music and Animals and Jewish people. We will then be looking at the book ‘Georges Marvellous Medicine’ and revolting rhymes. We will begin phonics, starting with a recap of Chapter 4b on phonics Shed. We will begin our maths coverage, starting with place value.

In our new garden.

This week we have been exploring our new garden, hunting for Humphrey's treasure and cooking in the mud kitchen like Charlotte the Chef.

Maths.

In maths lessons we have been learning about place value, we have been using our environment to build numicon cities.

This week we've been looking at different ways to partition two-digit numbers. We have looked at part-whole models inside the classroom and outside, as well as using base 10.

In maths this week, we have been looking at number lines and comparing numbers and objects which included regular classroom items.

This week our maths has led to us learning how to count in our 2's, 5's, 10's and 3's. We have been using blocks to make towers and using recipes that have multiples of 2,5,20 and 3 in them.

In maths this week we have moved on to addition and subtraction and we are still recapping our 3 times tables.

English and Phonics.

This week we have been looking at 'The Whale who Wanted More' in English. We have been doing a recap of our 4b sounds and using them to build words.

This week in English we have been continuing our learning on 'The Whale Who Wanted More' by ordering and retelling the story.  Continuing with a 4b recap, we have been looking at high frequency words and using our sounds to make known words.

This week we continued our 4B recap in phonics. We have seen our characters in our environment and have been drawing/creating the characters to match the sound. We started our learning on Roald Dahl's 'Georges Marvellous Medicine'. This has included making our own potions and looking at what ingredients we would include in our own medicines.

We have continued our learning of 'Georges Marvellous Medicine' this week by using household items to make creations and thinking of what effects it would have on Grandma if she drank it.

This week our focus has been modelling high frequency words out of clay and building blocks with our sounds on them this is to support our phonics workshop that had our parents come and learn phonics with their grown ups.

Geography.

In our first week, we have used our new geography knowledge to spot human and physical features throughout the garden as well as building our own human features.

Our learning this week has led to making mountains in the sand, investigating maps and globes and writing leaflets about the 4 countries in the UK.

Music.

This week we have been focusing on the song 'Your Imagination'. This has meant learning to play it on the glockenspiels and using our environment to make our own music and writing our own songs.

Animals, including humans.

We have begun our learning on animals, starting with learning and classifying different animals into mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, as well as identifying the needs of humans and other animals and how we all need to stay healthy.

This week we had our class trip to Wildwood where we all had a blast seeing the different animals and their types. We also looked at lifecycles and where we can see them in our environment.
