Science – Teeth and Digestion
During the next two weeks, Maples will be learning all about teeth and digestion. We will begin by looking at teeth and the types of teeth different animals have, including humans who have canines, incisors, premolars and molars. We will then model the four types of teeth out of salt dough. We will then look at the digestive system and how it is the process of breaking down food and absorbing it into the body to use energy. We will have great fun modelling this.
We undertook a experiment about enamel, using eggshells and various liquids with sugar and acid. Check it out below.

English – Planet Omar
This term we have been reading and writing about Planet Omar. We have specifically been looking at writing to entertain. We created our own characters inspired by the planet Omar universe and our own mini stories. Check them out below.

Re - Christians
During our two-week RE learning experience about Christians, we will be looking at stories in the Bible and what some Christians believe about Creation, the Fall and Salvation. We will then go on to look at how some Christians view life as a journey and the important milestones they might celebrate. Finally, we will look to answer these three questions –
- Why is the Bible important for Christians today?
- Why do some people think life is a journey?
- What can we learn from Christianity about deciding right and wrong?
Maples will also get to go to Canterbury Cathedral. During the visit, we will take part in an engaging costume trail and enjoy a guided tour of the cathedral, helping us learn more about its history and importance to Christians today.

Finally, Maples had an amazing time on our trip to Canterbury Cathedral. We started by dressing up and taking a guided story-telling tour around the Cathedral. The children were fascinated and asked some amazing questions.

After lunch, we took part in two activities, where we created our own stained-glass windows and practised writing with ink and quill pens.

Maples explored some events that a person might experience in life. We looked at events that some Christians value and how everyone values different things, and might experience life changes at different times in their life. Maples then made a road map of some events you might experience in life.
Then we looked at the stories of Creation, the Fall and Salvation from the Bible.

First we worked out what we already know about Christianity.

Art - Block Printing
During our art learning experience, we will be learning how to block print. We will begin by looking at these three artists – Claire Willberg, Kevork Mourad, Shepard Fairey. Next, we will explore how to create stamps, and different materials we could print onto, as well as explore how we could use multiple colours in one print. Finally, we will create our own tile design. Check them out below!

PE - Dance
This term we have had a dance teacher come in and teach us lots of different dances. We have all loved it. Check out a couple of our dances below.
Music – Glockenspiels
This week Maples will be learning how to play the Glockenspiels. In particular, we will learn to play and read the notes C, D, E + F.

Science - Living things
Over the next two weeks, Maples will be looking at living things in Science. We will start by looking at living things and their habitats. We will then go onto grouping and classifying animals and plants. Finally, we will look at how humans can impact habitats and the effects of this.

Geography - Rainforests
Over the next three weeks, the children will learn about rainforests and how humans impact the environment. They will explore where rainforests are located, investigate the four rainforest layers and the animals that live there. We will also discuss deforestation, climate change and what we can do to help protect our planet. Maples will be building biome models, creating rainforest artwork and using maps and atlases. As part of our learning, we will be visiting Wingham Wildlife Park, where the children will have the opportunity to experience rainforest animals up close and explore the rainforest SOS section.

PSHE – Environment
During our next learning experience, we will be learning about how humans affect the global environment, including climate change, pollution and deforestation. We will explore what sustainability means and consider ways we can reduce waste and look after our planet. We will also discuss how our choices can have a positive impact on the world now and in the future, and understand the consequences of poor environmental care on people, wildlife and communities.

PSHE - Healthy Eating
During our next learning experience, we will be looking at what constitutes a healthy diet. In particular, we will be looking at nutritional content and understanding calories. We will be planning a range of healthy meals, and we will look at the risks of unhealthy eating.

Art – Water Colour (Landscapes)
During our Learning Experience, we will be creating a piece of art inspired by Paul Klee, Georgia O'Keeffe and David Hockney landscape pieces. We will start by using some of those as inspiration and annotating the pieces of art. We will then look at landscapes through primary and secondary sources. In particular, we will look at scale and proportion. We will then practise a range of brush techniques and colour manipulation. Finally, we will use all of our knowledge to create our own landscape using watercolours.

Science – Electricity
During our next Learning Experience we will identify common appliances that run on electricity and appliances that run on batteries. We will then be constructing simple circuits, identifying and naming basic parts. Next we will identify whether a light bulb will light in simple circuits. Maples will have lots of time to experiment and create circuits.

History - Ancient Egypt
During our first history Learning Experience, Maples will answer the key enquiry of, 'What did the Ancient Egyptians believe?' To answer this question we will start by studying where Egypt is, who the Ancient Egyptians were and when they lived. We will go on to look at: Gods and Goddesses, the Pyramids, mummification and what they believe about the afterlife. As part of the experience, we will be visiting Maidstone Museum – where they have a real mummy!
