In PE...

Chestnut Trees have been busy this week, exploring how the body moves differently and at different speeds. In our first PE lesson of the term, we have been focusing on fundamental skills.

In team work, we listened to each other and shared our ideas, whilst challenging ourselves.

In PSHE...

We have been learning how to be present in our world. Discussing subjects such as 'How to get to know one another', 'Respect each other's opinions', as well as 'How to remain calm', in enjoyable games and conversations.

This week in Chestnut Trees, we have been exploring place value and manipulating the numbers to see what happens.

We had great fun learning our maths through maths manipulatives.

In English, we have been learning about 'Question words' and how to recognise them in our class text, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.

Our new learning experience in Chestnut class is FORCES!

We will be learning about common forces such as pushes, pulls, friction and gravity.

As a class, we will explore how forces affect objects and understand that some forces, such as friction, can slow things down. Chestnuts will also investigate magnetic forces, discovering that magnets can attract or repel certain materials and that magnets have two poles.

Watch this space, for more exciting news about how we have investigated this topic further.

The Colour Run!

Chestnuts had an amazing time at the colour run, it was awesome!

And what a great way for us to enjoy a sunny Friday afternoon.

...Continuing with our learning experience on 'Forces'.

We made the most of our great outdoor space and investigated which forces assisted us to move on the exercise equipment. We discovered that both 'push' and 'pull' forces were present, but both forces required contact from us to move them.

We took this learning back to the classroom and carried on investigating how different everyday items move. We then put them into 'push / pull' columns to share our knowledge.

In Reading, we spent time-sharing our books this week, to learn about different texts and to enable us to look at a range of books, which we might not usually pick up ourselves. We also looked for different features and the use of structure.

We found commands and speech in nearly all of our books, which led to us discovering which books are text books and which are stories, as well as other punctuation which we have been practising using in our own writing.
