2024/25
Term 2
This term, we will start our learning by looking at 'The Best Diwali Ever' focussing on the festival of Diwali and RE. Next, we will move on to look at 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' with a focus on Computing and Geography before looking at Music through 'The Good Little Wolf'. Lastly, we will be spending two weeks on 'The Christmas Story' to look at the meaning behind the reason some people celebrate Christmas. In phonics, we start the term with an assessment week before recapping the sounds we need a little more help on. We will then move on to Chapter 2 sets 5-7 before another recap week at the end of term. In Maths, we will look at circles and triangles, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and four-sided shapes.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
We used maps from the Bear Hunt story to help our positional language learning in Maths.
We used Matata lab to support our learning on computing.
The Best Diwali Ever!
We acted out the story of Rama and Sita and made Firework artwork using paint.
Term 1
This term, we will be welcoming a brand-new cohort of Apples to school life at Greenfields. We will start by looking at the poem 'Each Peach, Pear Plum' to help the children settle and support those who came from our nursery rooms. We will then move on to the book 'One Family', focussing on Art and History, before moving on to PSHE and the book 'Meesha Makes Friends'. We will then be looking at the book 'Let's Celebrate Navratri' before moving on to 'Funny Bones', focussing on PSHE and Science. We end term one by looking at the book 'The Best Pumpkin Soup' with a focus on DT. We will begin phonics in week two of term, recapping Chapter 1 of Phonics Shed before learning sets 1-4 of Chapter 2. In week three, we begin our maths coverage with two weeks on matching and comparing, two weeks on pattern and measure and two weeks introducing 1, 2 and 3. Our P.E focus for the term will be invasion games with Mr Brooks.
Pumpkin Soup
We had an amazing time at Pumpkin Moon selecting pumpkins to support our learning on Pumpkin Soup.
Funny Bones
We spent two weeks looking at 'Funny Bones' by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. The first week was based on PSHE. We looked at ways to keep ourselves healthy including brushing our teeth, washing our hands and getting enough sleep.
We also looked at the PANTS rule and how to keep our bodies safe and then created different pants to share our understanding.
Amazing Child-Initiated Learning
We have loved exploring the environment.
Maths - Matching
We found items that match in the environment.
One Family - Art
We began this book, focussing on drawing skills in art. We created a range of self-portraits using different materials.
We loved drawing our families.
Each Peach, Pear, Plum
Our First P.E. Lesson
We had the most amazing time at our first P.E. lesson in the hall.
Peach, Pear and Plum Kebabs
We made some delicious kebabs from peaches, pears and plums, trying to add the fruits in a repeating pattern. The fruit felt a bit slimy but tasted good.
The story of 'Each Peach, Pear, Plum' helped us settle into school, remembering our time in our respective nurseries. We spent lots of time exploring the environment, learning how to sit on the carpet during adult-led sessions and how to tidy away our resources.
