2024/25
Term 2
To begin our year of learning, we will be covering Fresh Prince of Bel Air in music, Country Study in geography, Properties of Materials in science and Health and First Aid in PSHE. In maths we will be focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages. In English we will be writing to entertain taking inspiration from our class books Tyger and The Highwayman. In PE we will be doing swimming and invasion games. Check our class page to keep up to date with our learning.
Properties of Materials - Science
During this learning experience we will be exploring the properties of materials. We will begin by investigating material properties, comparing and grouping materials by properties such as hardness, solubility and conductivity. We will then test these properties for practical uses. We will explore solubility and solutions and discuss reversible and irreversible change through dissolving and mixing. Finally, we will be investigating the new materials created and how to separate mixtures. For more information, click on the link below.
Country Study - Geography
During this learning experience, we will be covering the geographic curriculum objectives with a focus on trade and export. We will begin by looking at a world map locating important countries in global trade. Then we will be focusing in closer on different cities and their exports. We will continue to analyse these through their climate zones and natural resources. We will then look at how industry and trade routes have had an impact on land use over time. We will conclude the learning experience by visiting the London Docklands Museum and creating our own trade project. For more information, click on the link below.
And really enjoyed exploring London Museum Docklands!
Managed to get some pictures along the way
We started our journey through London on the tube
In our first lesson, we used atlases to identify countries on a world map
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - Music
For our first Learning Experience this term we will be using our new music subscription "Charanga" to learn all about The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. This will include appraising similar and contrasting music, recreating and following the pulse, performing with our new glockenspiels and composing our own short song.
Term 1
To begin our year of learning, we will be covering App Design in computing, Anglo-Saxons - Scots in history, Product Design in DT and Aspirations in PSHE. In maths we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. In English we will be writing to inform taking inspiration from our class books Wonder and The Viewer. In PE we will be doing swimming and invasion games. Check our class page to keep up to date with our learning.
Aspirations - PSHE
This week we are looking at what is meant by aspirations. We will begin by thinking about the different stereotypes there are when it comes to roles and how we can ensure everyone has a chance to be who they want to be. We will then be exploring a number of different jobs and the skills and attributes they require to be successful. We will be thinking about our own goals and achievements, and what steps we may need to take to achieve this. As well as our learning, we will be visited by a variety of individuals who can share their own jobs and stories of how they have achieved this. For more information, click on the link below.
Thank you to Lucy (Miss Buckett's sister) who is an accountant currently living in Australia. Her career has given her the opportunity to travel around the world. So far, she has been to 51 countries!
Thank you to Dan Abnett, a local author, who has written many comics and novels including for Marvel, DC and Doctor Who!
Thank you to the farmers from New Line Learning who came to talk to us about their job and how their career has progressed (and to the adorable animals!)
Forces - Science
For our next learning experience, we will be learning about how different forces work. In order to do this, we will be carrying out three investigations, identifying the effects of friction, water resistance and air resistance on moving objects. During these investigations, we will plan and conduct our own experiments in groups, ensuring we complete a comparative fair test each time. To finish, we will explore the impact that levers, pulleys and gears can have on forces, as well as conducting research on the fascinating Heath Robinson and Rube Goldberg machines.

We used our loose parts area to test using levers, gears and pulleys
Thank you to all of the friends and family who came to help us with our air resistance experiment
For our second experiment, we designed our own water resistance experiment
For our first experiment, we tested how friction would affect the time taken for a car to reach the bottom of a ramp
Product Creation - DT
During this learning experience, we will be creating our own interactive game incorporating marbles. This could be a marble maze or a marble run. We will be evaluating existing products, use exploded diagrams to create intricate plans, test our design by creating prototypes and then create our final product. We will also review throughout to ensure we are making edits where needed. To read more information about the curriculum objectives covered, click on the link below.
Our Final Products
Some of our finished prototypes. We are so excited to make our final product!
We used card to create our prototypes
Anglo-Saxons and Scots - History
For our next learning experience, we will be exploring Anglo-Saxon Britain. We will be doing this through three main enquiries: 'How did Britain change after the Romans left?', 'What was the main cause of the end to the Anglo-Saxon rule?' and 'How hard was it to invade and settle in Britain?' Investigating the lives of the Anglo-Saxons, we will explore the impact the continuous raids at the time had on Britain. As well as analysing how the Anglo-Saxon rule eventually came to an end.
We explored some Anglo-Saxon artefacts to make predictions about how they lived
App Design - Computing
During this Learning Experience we will be creating our own apps. We will be creating interactive apps with a quiz feature. The children will also need to carefully design their apps to ensure they are user-friendly and atheistically pleasing. To read more about the curriculum objectives we will be covering, click on the link below.
