There's a superhero in your book
Peach Tree class will be focusing on the book 'There's a superhero in your book' by Tom Fletcher. This interactive book is a popular one with the children, and they enjoy trying to defeat the evil scribbler, who is out to cause mischief and chaos in the book. We have been on a superhero character hunt around the room, using illustrations from the book, we have drawn our own scribblers and also worked on our pencil control and mark making. We also had a go at making our own scribblers from playdough, googly eyes and green wool.
PSHE
During our PSHE sessions, the children met the character Jenie the cat, who encouraged us to use our kind hands and be gentle towards our friends. We also did some calm breathing exercises and listened for the calm chimes.
PE
We used our superpowers to make the parachute fly and move, during our action-packed PE lessons. We worked as a team to make waves and listened well to directions.
White Rose Maths
We have been exploring numbers and how they sound when we are counting and singing. We have sung songs such as '1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive', '5 current buns in a bakers shop' and 5 little men in flying saucer'. We have used our fingers to help us represent the numbers we are singing. We also bought to life the song of '5 little ducks went swimming on day' with our props.
The children have been counting in the environment too, spotting groups of 1,2 or 3 in the learning times.
During our child initiated learning, it's been a busy time! The children have been having a go at hula-hooping, playing tennis, and jumping over the hurdles. Sharing stories and singing together and playing instruments. They have been working on their fine motor skills, using the cutters and jelly and balancing passengers on trucks.
Super Duper You
Over the next 2 weeks we are focusing on the book Super Duper You. A wonderful rhyming book that explores how all the different parts of us; thoughts, feelings and dreams, make us, us. The children have enjoyed looking through the bright and colourful illustrations and talking about what they could see. We are looking at music alongside this book and this week we have been playing the claves. The children have been learning to stop and go when asked, they have followed directions well and played claves along to pieces of music. We watched the video of 'Trash the Camp' (Tarzan (1999) - Trashin' The Camp [UHD]) and used everyday items to make music, which was great fun! The children had their first go at using the Glockenspiels as well, we used Charanga to play along to songs and copy the music beats, which the children did incredibly well with.
PE
For PE over the 2 weeks, we were pirates first and then used bean bags to represent fairies .
The children really enjoyed singing and dancing to pirate songs, such as Over the Deep Blue Sea, I'm a Pirate and Silly Pirates. We also walked the plank, using our balancing and jumping skills. The children definitely grew in confidence the more turns they had.
For our bean bag fairies, the children flew their fairies in the air, balanced them on various parts of our bodies. We practised throwing, catching, balancing and listening.
White Rose Maths
For Maths, over the next 2 weeks, we are exploring building with blocks and exploring repeats, singing familiar nursery rhymes, using puppets.
. We listened to the song 'Build it up, Build It Up! Nursery Rhyme for Babies and Toddlers from Sing and Learn!' and then had a go at seeing how high we could build our towers.
The children enjoyed picking the song puppets and singing along to the familiar songs. They helped their friends identify the songs and shared the puppets beautifully.
PSHE
During our PSHE session we looked at emotions. The children looked at images of different emotions to see if they could identify them, and then we shared the story of Barbara Throws a Wobbler, an age-appropriate story about Barbara and her big emotions and how she helped herself feel better. We then discussed how to help ourselves if we are feeling big emotions.
During the children's learning times, they have continued to enjoy the shared spaces and exploring the different classes, using the singing stones to sing together, having a go at painting and mark making. We have had many trips on the nursery bus in the garden, visiting the beach and the zoo!
Getting to Know Each Other
A very warm welcome to Peach Tree Class
This week we have been exploring our environment, making friends and learning new routines. The children are settling in beautifully and have enjoyed listening to stories, singing, making dinner in the home corner.
We explored our faces, by looking in mirrors and showing our friends what we could see.
The children have been mark making too, talking about the colours they have used and what they have drawn.
We couldn't wait to explore the shared area with our friends from Plum, Pear and Mango classes. They tested their physical skills and climbed, swung, jumped and balanced on the equipment.
