The Three Little Pigs

This week we explored the story 'The three little pigs'. It is a traditional story about three little pigs who leave home to build their own houses using straw, sticks and bricks. They end up facing a big bad wolf who threatens to blow their homes down! We enjoyed exploring the story through role play using character spoons. We also used our cutting skills to create our own lolly stick puppets. We then used them during story time on the carpet. We used our amazing mark making skills to draw our own versions of the pigs using crayons, pens and colouring pencils. We used Lego bricks and paint to create different sized brick marks on our house outlines.

During maths this week, we continued to explore different shapes. We loved using the tap tap to create different pictures with different shapes. We worked together to order numbered pigs 1-10, we then independently demonstrated fantastic number recognition when placing the correct amount of resources on top of each pig.

During PSHE this week, we welcomed Jigsaw Jennie and Jerrie cat back into our classroom for another fun lesson. They helped us to understand our feelings and each other's feelings. We loved using the mirrors to demonstrate different emotions such as happy, angry, sad and love.

In PE we entered the superhero world. We started off by playing a freeze game. We were all superheroes and Miss Wilkinson was the villain, Mrs Freeze when she shouted Freeze, we had to freeze in a superhero pose otherwise we were out! We then had lots of fun as a whole class with the large parachute. We all sat on a colour and became that colour superhero. When Miss Wilkinson shouted a colour, we had to get up and either run, walk or crawl around to our spot. We had so much fun!

We enjoyed lots of learning time, there were so many fun and amazing activities to link to our story book such as creating houses with wooden lolly sticks and play-dough, building with bricks and straw, practising our cutting skills and so much more!

The Dot

This week we continued to explore the story 'The Dot'. We got creative and messy and produced lots more art to add to our art gallery we hosted for our KS1 friends. We used toilet roll tubes and paint to create different circles on our card and used paint dabbers to create dots on to real plates!

We enjoyed using different art resources such as crayons, tissue paper, glue and pens to decorate a paper plate. We worked as a team to create our own story board cutting and sticking photos and phrases from our story on to cardboard. Lastly, we challenged ourselves by using cotton buds and paint to trace our names.

During maths this week we focused lots on colour and shapes. We enjoyed arranging different resources from our maths area into the correct coloured bowls as well as exploring different shapes and tracing around them using our pencil control and fine motor skills on a sheet of wallpaper.

We loved meeting our PSHE characters Jigsaw Jennie and Jerrie cat. They helped us to understand how it feels to belong and that we are similar and different. We looked at different resources from around the classroom and Jigsaw Jennie helped us to put them back into the correct places to keep our classroom environment tidy. We introduced the chime instrument which helped us to calm before our lesson and focused on our rainbow breath by placing a finger on our nose and breathing into our hands.

More fun activities during our child-initiated learning time! and lots more art.

The Dot

This week we explored the story 'The Dot'. It is a story about a young girl named Vashti who is convinced that she can not draw, but discovers her creative potential after her art teacher encourages her to make a simple mark on paper and sign her name. We enjoyed creating different marks on large paper as well as using cotton buds to create small dots inside a big dot. We absolutely loved exploring different colours and how we could change them. We did this by using our hands to mix different coloured paint on the table. We spoke lots about how it felt and what colours they turned into. We then added our handprints to large paper so we could see our new colours.

During maths this week we focused on 'I see 1,2,3'. We were able to match the correct number of dominoes to the dots on the plate given to us. We then rolled a dice and picked out the same amount of gems or cubes to match the dice.

In PE this week, we turned into mythical creatures such as a dragon, fairy and unicorn. We practised travelling around the hall as these characters making sure to flap our wings like a dragon, gallop like a unicorn or twill and dance like a fairy. We finished off by pretending our bean bags were delicate fairies. We had to pass them around our body without dropping them on to the ground, as well as throwing them up in the air and attempting to catch them. We then challenged ourselves by throwing and catching our fairy with a partner.

We enjoyed lots of lovely learning inside and outside!

We finished the week off with our super fun sponsored colour run to raise money for our school. We got very messy!

Rain

We explored the story 'Rain' by Sam Usher. It is a story about a child called Sam and his grandad, Sam really wants to go and play outside in the rain, but grandad says that they must wait for the rain to stop. Eventually, grandad needed to post a letter so they set off for some lovely adventures in the rain. We enjoyed using cotton buds and paint to create rain clouds and also decorated rain clouds with tissue paper and glue.

We loved experimenting with pipettes! We used our fine motor skills to squeeze the blue water on to the cotton pad to create a raindrop effect. We then finished the week off by using our creativity and drawing skills to draw different weathers.

During maths, we demonstrated good number formation when recreating the numbers Miss Wilkinson was doing on the large screen. We recapped the songs 5 little ducks and 5 monkeys jumping on the bed. We then demonstrated good knowledge when holding up the correct number of fingers when a number was stated in the song.

In PE this week we pretended to be pirates! We demonstrated good listening and attention skills when doing the actions Miss Wilkinson was calling out, such as scrub the deck, captain is coming, all aboard and submarine. We then finished our lesson off by playing a few games of what's the time Mr captain.

During child-initiated learning time we loved exploring all the activities in our new classroom and our outside environment!

We had an amazing first trip as a class to Jeskyns Country park. We experimented with different materials to build a waterproof den such as wrapping paper, sticks, string, pegs, cardboard and tarpaulin in two separate groups. We then had a play in the park and ate our lunches all together on the benches.
