Art

Art and Design is about encouraging and promoting children's creativity and imagination by building on their knowledge, skills and understanding of materials and processes, through building upon and providing more complex activities.

Art is one way to enable children to reach their creative potential. Every child is entitled to develop their critical and creative thinking skills.

'Every child is an artist.' - Pablo Picasso

'You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.' - Maya Angelou

Art at Greenfields aims to encourage creativity and exploration, allowing children to express their creativity freely. We believe that children should be provided with the necessary tools and resources needed to access this creative freedom, without restriction.  We want children to be able to understand artistic processes, while allowing them to turn their creative thoughts into a reality.

'I like that we can put all our thoughts and ideas on a page.' (Year 5 student from Palm Tree Class)

The National Curriculum for Art outlines that:

  • A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
  • As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design.
  • They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
'To create a work of art is to create the world.' - Wassily Kandinsky
