Term 1 - Superheroes

Term 1 is going to be a super one! Willow Trees will be exploring all things superhero! The children will explore fictional superheroes, describing their appearance and powers. They will design their own superheroes and create an accessory for them! There may even be a game or two of superhero Top Trumps! Children will also think about real life superheroes, looking more closely at the lives of Rosa Parks and Mary Anning. After exploring comic books, children will be creating their own comic strips, using an app on the iPads. We will finish our topic with a feast fit for a superhero, where children will design and prepare their own super salads!

Creating a comic strip!

Once we had taken our photos, we used the Comic Captions app to create our comic strips. We learnt that a set of instructions in computing is called an algorithm. We carried out our algorithm carefully to add captions and speech bubbles to our photos to create a comic strip! Aren’t they amazing?!

Our final comic strips!

We used iPads to photograph our comic book scenes!

After taking our photos, we noticed some elements we weren’t happy with…some of our pictures were wonky, a bit dark or had too much white space around the edges. We used our problem solving skills to edit, crop and adjust our images until we were happy with them. In computing, fixing a mistake is called ‘debugging’.

Look at this amazing problem solving!

In maths, we have been learning about place value!

Identifying features of fact-files!

We have created our own superheroes!

Describing superheroes...

Sketching Thor’s hammer!

A super fun afternoon: superhero city scapes, Top Trumps and discussion!

Carefully following instructions to draw Hulk!
