To begin this term, we will be learning about how to keep our bodies and our minds fit and healthy. We will be learning about different ways in which we can keep our bodies healthy, including exercise, health diets, good routines and thinking about ways in which we can keep our minds healthy to. We will start by looking at what fitness is and think about movements carefully to create our own routines. We will then look at the 'eatwell' plate and what it means to eat a balanced diet. We will then move onto learning about different emotions, recognising them and the importance of sharing them to ensure that we are able to keep our minds healthy and know how to ask for support should it be needed. To end this unit, we will then be learning about the importance of having a good daily routine and combining our learning to respond to different scenarios.
Please see the knowledge organiser and progress grid below for more information:
We began the term by thinking about how to keep our bodies healthy. We discussed different aspects with Mrs Wickett during a PE lesson and used this to develop our own fitness routines.
Then we learnt about the ‘Eatwell plate’. We learnt about the different foods that we all need to maintain a healthy diet and found out that it is okay to eat all food types, but they need to be eaten in moderation to ensure that we have a balanced diet. We then created our own healthy plates in our books.
After, we thought about our mental health and how it is important to include this when thinking about being healthy. We discussed the different emotions, and read ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. This helped us to visualise what the different emotions might be like. We learnt that it is okay to feel these different emotions, and that sometimes we can feel more than one thing and that it is okay to do so. We used the story to then think about different things that would make us feel happy, sad, angry, scared, calm and loved.
Finally, we thought what we would need to do to ensure that we follow a healthy daily routine, allowing time for mental health as well as physical health.
For the second half of the term, we will be looking at using the BeeBots and basic programming. We will be learning what an algorithm is and how we can use basic algorithms to program the robot to move. We will undertake some unplugged lessons, without using the technology, as well as using the apps on the iPads. By the end of the term, we will have a good understanding of algorithms, debugging and basic programming.
