Week 2 (1st - 5th March)

Monday 1st March 2021

Topic- For our 'Growing' topic this week, we are going to start thinking about animal life cycles.
To start with, can you watch the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by clicking the link below.

Once you have watched this, click the document below and put the life cycle of a butterfly into the correct order. Can you label the different parts of the life cycle too?

Maths- For Maths this week, we are going to start learning about 3D shapes. Watch the video to see Mrs Hanratty introduce some 3D shapes and then complete the matching activity below. Adults can you read the name and children can you find the correct shape?

Phonics- For phonics today we are going to practice some of our new learning.

Tuesday 2nd March 2021

Topic -  Today we are moving onto the life cycle of a frog. Please click on the powerpoint below to look at the different stages of the life cycle. Once you have looked at the powerpoint, please complete the activity below. 

Maths - This week we are looking at 3D shapes, today we would like you to go on a shape hunt around your house. Using the tick list on the document below, see what 3D shapes you can find. (For example, if I found a large toy box, I would tick the cuboid box).

Reading- For today's reading activity, we would like you to go back onto 'Oxford Owl' and choose a pink or red level book to read.

Wednesday 3rd March

 

Topic: Today we are going to look at the life cycle of a hen. Watch the PowerPoint below to learn about the life cycle of the hen. Then click on the document below and put the hens life cycle into the correct order and write about each stage of the cycle. For example: "it is an egg.".

Maths: We are continuing our learning about 3D shapes. Use any objects around your home to create a 3D shape model. You could make a model of anything you like, maybe a rocket or perhaps an animal! For material examples you could use: cups (cylinders), cereal boxes (cuboids). Some examples are shown below.

Reading: Our reading today is continuing with the story ‘The Tadpoles Promise’. Click on the document below and complete the drawing activity. Choose one of the characters, either the tadpole or the caterpillar, and draw how they looked at the beginning of the story and how they looked by the end of the story.

Thursday 4th March 2021

Topic - Today we would like you to use the document below to write about the lifecycles you have learnt this week. What is the same between the 3 lifecycles and what is different? 

Maths - We are continuing with 3D shapes. Please click on the document below and put the real life objects in the correct column that matches the 3D shape. 

Reading - Today we would like you to read the captions and match them to the correct image.

Friday 5th March

 

Topic: Today we are going to look at what different animals need to grow. Click on the document below and draw a picture of your favourite animal in the box then use the lines to write a list of what it needs to grow. For example: a shark would need water to live in and food. A dog would need food, water, shelter and space to exercise. A sheep would need shelter, grass to eat and water.

Maths: Click on the document below and look at the two 3D junk models. Use the space around the pictures to label what 3D shapes have been used to make the models.

Phonics: Complete the recapping activities below.

 

Recap: Log onto PhonicsPlay and select Flashcards. Practice all the sounds we have learnt so far.

Practice: On PhonicsPlay select 'Buried Treasure' and choose either 'ee' or 'ai' words, sort the words into the real or fake categories.

Apply: Click on the document below and write a caption for each picture using our new 'ee' and 'ai' digraphs.

Reading: Yesterday was World Book Day and to celebrate we are going to complete the 'Guees the Character' World Book Day Challenge! Click on the document below and complete the challenge.
